At the crossing of Commercial Road and Aldgate High Street in the London’s City, a groundbreaking 22-story building has been built directly above the Aldgate East tube station, partly relying on pre-existing concrete construction.
The Aldagate building is a mix of commercial space on the ground floor, office space from the 1st to 6th floor and residential space from the 7th to the 21st floor. The building is providing 33,528 square meters of office space spread across 6-stories, 207 apartments as well as commercial space on the ground floor and underground parking.
One Commercial is superbly situated between Square Mile and the City Fringe. The investment is a symbol of the growing importance of Aldgate on the map of London and is a landmark in the development of the district. The building fits perfectly into the ongoing revitalization of the area.
Apartments inside of the building consist of studio, 1 and 2-bedroom apartments. All of the residential premises have an exceptional specification and many have spacious balconies with impressive city views. On the 21st floor the high-quality apartments have been located, including four exclusive private penthouses that meet the highest standards of living in London. The façade is a largely glazed, composite elevation, connected to balconies and brise-soleil elements with a curtain wall on the lower levels. The building was put into use in 2014. The developer was Redrow, and the architectural design was developed by Sigma Seifert. The contractor was the Sisk Group company. Construction was suspended in 2008, but as the London housing market revived, the project was purchased by Redrow and completed. Located on the building’s ground floor is one of the western entrances to Aldgate East Tube Station.

PROJECT
The Developer Redrow described the building as ’a blade of light, which glass fins protrude dramatically adding a sculptural quality to Redrow London’s first flagship development’. The entrance hall is decorated with a centrally located London Underground C car used as a lounge area. The car displays Aldgate East station as its destination. The unit  number is 5721, which was the number of one of the last C Stock units to operate on the subway before being decommissioned in 2014. The International Property Awards honored One Commercial Street as the Best Residential High-rise Development UK 2013-14.
